Our Offer

Our offer to you

Bridgend County Borough Council is a great place for anyone wishing to further their social care career.

We respect the challenging role of a social worker and therefore we provide you with a range of support and development to enable you to do your job.

Benefits

As an employer we are committed to making sure you are supported personally and professionally, have the tools you need to do your job, and have access to a wide range of career progression opportunities and continuous professional development.

The council values its employees and has taken practical steps to help them to achieve a balance between their work and home lives. You will have access to:

  • Flexible working hours
  • Annual leave purchase scheme
  • Special leave
  • Parental leave
  • Maternity leave / Paternity support

We listen to our staff and there are schemes in place for all staff to shape the way in which our services develop.

We have a range of benefits which include:

Local Government Pension Scheme

The Local Government Pension Scheme (LGPS) is a nationwide, career average pension scheme and is a valuable part of the pay and reward package for employees working in local government. The LGPS gives you:

  • Secure benefits – the scheme provides you with a future income, independent of share prices and stock market fluctuations.
  • Tax-efficient savings and lower National Insurance contributions for most people under State Pension Age.
  • Financial security for your family, with immediate life cover and a pension for your spouse, civil partner or eligible cohabiting partner and eligible children in the event of your death in service.

Plus

  • Your employer pays in too – the scheme is provided by your employer who meets the balance of the cost of providing your benefits in the LGPS

Hours of work and flexible working arrangements

We aim to enable you to find a positive balance between your work and home life. We believe that this benefits you and the organisation as a whole, as it leads to a more focused, happier and healthier workforce. Your normal hours of work will be as per your contract of employment. We will continue alternative working arrangements and welcome applications on both a full and part time basis.

Annual leave

You will be entitled to 24 days (pro rata) paid annual leave, in addition to general public holidays. Your annual leave entitlement increases to 29 days (pro rata) after 5 years’ continuous service.

Childcare voucher scheme

If you have children, you can save money by using our childcare voucher scheme to help towards your childcare costs.

Up to £243 can be deducted from your monthly salary into vouchers which can pay for a wide range of childcare including your (registered) carers and taking part in the scheme enables staff and the council to both save money as the vouchers are tax and National Insurance (NI) exempt up to £243 per month.

Support – making it easier to do a great job

With regular professional supervision you’ll have opportunity to discuss workload and cases and receive clear leadership and direction.
